Business Plan
Tidal Force Solutions
Our mission
is to capture the power of tidal and wave force. Tidal Force Solution's Tidal Cube is reliable in capturing
ocean, wave and tidal forces for underwater electrical power generation. For over thirty years, the topics of wind and solar have dominated the international
discussion. Only frequently does one hear about tidal forces and their potential. The tides, which happen twice a day,
from the gravitational power of the moon, sun and earth, are “weather independent”. It doesn’t have to be
a sunny day or a windy day. Tidal forces move consistently, with little concern about the weather, and provide tremendous
potential as compared to other modern alternative energy solutions in practice today.
In conjunction with a combination of existing off-the-shelf
conventional technologies, we provide a powerful alternative energy solution package. The harvesting of natural power will
be changed by this simply functional design, and provide an unmatched solution to clean, environmentally friendly, alternative
sources of electrical power generation. We are in a unique position
in time to dominate the geometric growth of this promising alternative power solution.
Organizational:
The Tidal Cube covers
a diversity of application environments. This includes everything from farmers disconnecting their electrical pumps and using
this new solution to irrigate their fields for free, to delta and ocean “farms” underwater, unseen, for tremendous
electrical power generation. As such, there will be design packages specifically configured for the following applications:
rivers, deltas, bays, inlets and oceans. At the time of this writing we are anticipating offering commercial packages in the 5,
10, 15 and 20 foot diameter packages. We vision the initial business structure to include, one part time lawyer and one full time marketing
professional, two outside sales people, two mechanical and electrical engineers, and a manufacturing/purchasing lead. This will require a
manufacturing facility with an office. Once the range of product offerings are established, statistical performance data per
offering confirmed, we will be going public with our IPO slated for February of 2010.
Manufacturing Facility:
Our
initial manufacturing facility will be a relatively small industrial building with basic material delivery and handling and
limited just-in-time inventories. The primary machinery will be cutting and plastic mold tool injection machines or vacuum
molding machines for production of the required High Density Poly Ethylene “blades” and miscellaneous components.
Carbon based fiber manufacturing is a consideration due to its ratings of being
lighter and stronger than steel. One large delivery truck, various signage and utilities and overheads will be in that calculation. Our initial data gathering
process will consist of various diameter prototypes mentioned, in their native environments, being monitored for performance
statistics. These performance statistics will be instrumental in defining what categories of product offerings we will focus
on, and will assist in the process of including ROI baseline guarantees using performance and standard payback period datasets.
Competition:
Amazingly enough, the tidal force/electrical power generation
industry is in its infancy. The solar and wind alternative energy businesses have been in the forefront for over thirty years
but still, at this point, generates very little power (less than 2 to 3%) relative to oil, coal and gas. We feel that this
will change drastically as consumers become acclimated to the idea of getting power from “Moon Power”. With our
performance statistics, and the current cultural shifts the need for a better solution than wind and solar will empower this
new emerging and promising industry. We believe that this new solution
will become so intuitive, so environmentally unobtrusive, that it will sell itself, and our position in the market for alternative
power generation will be overwhelmingly attractive.
Pricing
/ Marketing:
Initial pricing of Tidal Cube kits will be modeled so that customers can abandon
their current standard electrical power solutions and compare the savings over their current costs that will provide a pay
back period under three years. We think that the initial prices should be so attractive, and the ROI or
payback period to be so straightforward as to motivate consumers/utilities to embrace the technology quickly.
Marketing
will focus obviously on the “green” aspects, the esthetics, the unmatched performance statistics relative to wind,
solar, geothermal etc., and emerge as a low cost, environmentally sound, solution that will prove to be desirable for all
market segments. During the design phase, we had 7 basic items in our wish list that will also be included in the marketing
process: Tidal Force Solutions' design criteria was:
1) we don't want to see it,
2)
it has to be very simple, 3) Its power generation are second to none relative to factors like total volume of space used, and
predictable return on investments, 4) no electrical devices in the water and therefore no corrosion, 5) power generators turn
in the same direction regardless of the direction of the tidal forces, 6) the design has to be modular so they can bolt together like Lego blocks,
7)
it has to have a standard design that, unlike a propeller designs, has to work also in shallow flowing waters also.
Management
Team:
Paul Wilton – Founder. Holds a Bachelor Degree in Science from California
State University at Sacramento Business Management with a concentration in Operations Management, an Associates Degree in
Business Administration from Solano Community College, is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and is currently the Senior
Information Technology Analyst for Comcast Spotlight in Central California. With as many years in the mechanical and
electrical design engineering industry as he has in the Information technology arena, he has a breadth of technical expertise
to lead this new emerging industry.
Initial
use of Funding:
The initial use of funding will be to accomplish critical
milestones.
The first
will consist of enhancing this website and provide viewers with streaming video of the device's functionality
and a more granular comparative analysis of all current ocean/tide solutions with the intention of cementing the obvious advantages
over other solutions.
The second
usage of these funds will be to acquire the materials and expertise to manufacture, install and test prototypes in the 5,
and 10 foot diameter range and to gather the statistical data on their KW output potentials over time (1 year) which will
generate performance data for application and kit categories. These
will most likely be installed in nearby bodies of tidal flows such as the California Delta and Bay areas such as Carquinez
Straights near Benicia and the San Francisco bay near Pinole. There will be State and Local permits and environmental permissions
and fees to be assessed and paid.
The third
usage of these funds will be to gather these performance statistics, improve any remaining design details, initiate vendor
relationships for plastic mold tool injection, potential carbon fiber construction cost projections, water pump, generator
and barge and installation services. Once each category has all the associated performance statistics and equipment selection
well defined and tested we’ll need some marketing and sales professional to define, target and solicit buyers.
